Garmin released their first in-car GPS device, the StreetPilot, in 1998. The company is headquartered in Olathe, Kansas. The name “Garmin” is derived from the first names of its two founders. In 1989, Garmin was founded by Gary Burrell and Min Kao in Lenexa, Kansas. The company focuses on automotive, marine, aviation, outdoor, and wearable GPS (Global Positioning System) devices.
